Healthy Aging Interdisciplinary Research Team

The Healthy Aging Interdisciplinary Research Team focuses on research that examines quality of life for older adults, the process of aging through the life course, and the health care needs of older adults in the US/Mexico border region. Currently, our work is focused more specifically on mapping how older adults meet their health care and other daily needs in Doña Ana County. We are developing plans to use geographic information systems tools to map the spatial dimensions of the daily arc of older adults’ lives beginning with an examination of the use of transportation, both public and personal. Through this work, we seek to better understand the strengths, needs, and challenges that older adults in Doña Ana County face, then use that work to support public and health care policy efforts that can improve the quality of life for older adults in our communities.
